SUMMARY:The Future of Building Occupancy
DESCRIPTION:Safety\, Efficiency and Sustainability in a Post-COVID World \nThe Smart Buildings Center invites you to attend this important discussion on the future of building occupancy. As you may or may not know\, the #1 emitter of greenhouse gas emissions is not industry or transportation\, its buildings\, representing 39% of all global GhG. Furthermore\, almost 75% of those building-based emissions come from day-to-day operations – heating\, cooling\, ventilating\, and lighting. And to make things worse\, it is estimated that about 30% of the energy used in buildings is wasted. \nWhy? One big problem is that buildings’ HVAC systems are often run with set schedules rather than being dynamic to reflect occupancy\, usage\, environment and other usage factors. \nWith information\, like real time occupancy\, buildings can be better managed in reducing CO2 emissions and saving energy. Join us Tuesday\, October 19th at noon PST/ 3 pm EST for this lively panel discussion and learn about the latest technology and artificial intelligence solutions for running HVAC systems and building controls to optimize for energy savings and sustainability. \nKey takeaways: \n\nLearn how to reduce energy costs by 30 – 40%\nFind out what it takes to be on the leading edge of sustainability innovations\nLearn first-hand how customers are using this today to reduce their energy and C02 emissions\nKnow how to ensure optimal uptime\, run efficiently and effectively for comfort and air quality

SUMMARY:Planning for the Future: New and Improved Pandemic Protocols
DESCRIPTION:As building owners and operators reflect on the pandemic\, organizations are making plans to increase preparedness\, improve resilience\, and enact responsive building operations that can reduce energy and scale occupancy. Improving operations during periods of low occupancy\, such as temporarily decommissioning buildings\, can reduce energy consumption and help building owners avoid unnecessary costs. Learn from experts in the field as they discuss changes to their own pandemic preparedness and response plans and best practices for navigating future events.

SUMMARY:O&M for Clean Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Clean Buildings – Getting to Efficiency\nA four-part webinar series \nWSU Energy Program no-cost webinars for Resource Conservation Managers\, Energy Managers\, and Sustainability Managers at public facilities in Washington State (others welcome to attend as space allows) \nOperations & maintenance (O&M) and energy management plans (EMP) required for the Washington State Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS) are the focus of this four-part webinar series hosted by the Washington State University Energy Program and presented by Neil Bavins\, BOC instructor. While much attention is given to the pathways of compliance for CBPS\, this series explores the CBSP requirements of developing EMP and O&M plans\, as well as beginning to reduce building energy use. \nEach webinar has up to an hour of presentations and a half hour for Q&A. Please register for each separately. \nLearn about what must be included in the O&M plan\, as required by the CBPS. Elements such as inventory\, performance objectives\, and O&M tasks will be explored\, as well as a more detailed look into O&M measures for HVAC.

SUMMARY:Lighting up Energy Savings with LED Upgrades
DESCRIPTION:Replacing lighting with efficient LEDs continues to result in substantial savings for commercial buildings. Join us to hear from three ENERGY STAR partners who have installed LED lighting and realized savings. Bimbo Bakeries will discuss their journey towards installing LED lighting in 80% of their bakeries\, with LED lighting installations planned for the remainder of the bakeries by 2020. The savings from lighting alone account for at least 15% of their electrical consumption. Food Lion will share how they completed a rollout of LED sales floor lighting by upgrading 163 stores. The savings from the 2019 installs is over 40.6 billion BTUs. Ozinga Bros\, Inc will discuss the lighting retrofits of five maintenance shops with LEDs. The combined projects will save $5\,500 per year\, and they were able to receive nearly $4\,000 in utility rebates. In addition to better energy efficiency\, the new lights make their shops brighter and safer. \nSpeakers: \n\nLeslie Adebayo\, Corporate Sustainability Manager\, Bimbo Bakeries\nSean Shropshire\, Specialist Energy Engineer\, Food Lion\nNathan Onchuck\, Energy Manager\, Ozinga Bros

SUMMARY:Your Next Steps—Calculating Your Water Impacts
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Seattle 2030 District\, Earth Economics developed a Water Reuse Calculator to help property owners in the Seattle area make the economic case for investing in rainwater and greywater capture and reuse systems. \nThese systems can be utilized to improve the water performance of a building\, reduce stormwater runoff and lower associated drainage charges\, and be a vital strategy to achieve the 2030 Challenge Pilot and Living Building Pilot Challenges. Check out the tool here: https://www.eartheconomics.org/waterreuse-calculator \nILFI’s new study on utility rates helps to meet the 2030 District goals as well. ILFI will share recent research on the use of potable water focusing on the opportunities available specifically to residential buildings in Seattle\, and demonstrates that many off-the-shelf systems are now available at a cost that is recoverable within a reasonable timeframe\, making water-saving retrofits and new construction more financially viable.
