Beyond BIM – Technology Enabled Building Operations

January 8, 2019 By SBC

Join McKinstry and Lean Construction on January 16th to hear an expert panel discuss technology enabled operation of buildings. Topics will include leveraging the Building Information Model after building occupancy, how augmented reality can enhance operations, real-time analytics of building systems, and how IoT will impact buildings and our future.

Speakers:B. Rimes Mortimer – Microsoft- Rimes Mortimer is the General Manager, Applied Innovation team within Microsoft Digital – a newly formed Microsoft organization designed to help customers define and implement their digital transformations. In his role, Mortimer leads a global team specifically focused on creating highly innovative solutions with customers and partners using emerging technologies, like IoT, Blockchain, Machine learning, AI, and Mixed Reality (Hololens) to accelerate new growth areas of opportunity for Microsoft.

Mark King – Autodesk – It’s no secret every construction project is buried in thousands of documents and managing that information is difficult. Come learn how a fresh approach combined with new innovation is helping builders overcome this industry-wide pain so they can perform better, with fewer resources. Brian will take a pragmatic approach to exploring the innovation wave hitting the Construction Industry including sharing tips on sifting through new innovation and best practices for deploying new technology.

John SanGiovanni – John SanGiovanni has more than two decades of experience as an entrepreneur and inventor. John has authored more than 20 patents in the areas of augmented reality, wearable hardware systems, and UI, many of which have subsequently been licensed or purchased by Apple, Microsoft, and others. John will provide an overview of how Virtual and Augmented Reality will transform Facilities/Owner Training in new and impactful ways.

Hendrik Van Hemert – McKinstry – Hendrik Van Hemert oversees PNW technical service offerings for McKinstry. These offerings include active energy management, powerED, M&V. and Issue Management. Hendrik will share how the explosion of data in the operations of the built environment is setting the stage for a digital market transformation. He will outline barriers to faster adoption of technology in facility operations and explain how a dearth of foundational knowledge has limited the impact and scale of smart buildings to date.

Doug Moore – McKinstry – Moderator – Doug Moore is president of McKinstry and will moderate the panel conversation. In his work, Doug is highly engaged in the significant disruption underway that is industrializing the design, delivery and operation of buildings.
