MAY

5/13 – USGBC Building Transformation Forum

Washington is at the forefront of adopting circular economy principles across the built environment, from pioneering waste diversion programs to adopting policies aimed at reducing embodied carbon, this forum will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts to explore how circular economy practices—such as material reuse, waste reduction, and sustainable resource management—are transforming the state’s buildings and infrastructure. Through case studies and engaging panel discussions, attendees will actively explore how circular economy strategies, policies and community-driven efforts are shaping the future of Washington’s built environment.

5/14 – 5/15 – NW Facilities Expo

The Northwest Facilities Expo returns for its 31st annual show May 14-15, 2025! The Facilities Expo provides FREE valuable learning and networking opportunities in a unique format serving the northwestern region. Bringing together the facilities engineering, MRO and green building communities, the Northwest Facilities Expo attracts a diverse audience of facilities managers, maintenance managers, and energy managers from a wide variety of industries including food processing, government, healthcare, manufacturing, education, wineries, utilities and others.

JUNE

6/21 – 6/25 – ASHRAE Annual Conference

ASHRAE is an international society of more than 50,000 heating, refrigerating and air-conditioning professionals from over 132 nations dedicated to serving humanity and promoting a sustainable world. Join them in Phoenix, AZ this year for their annual conference full of learning sessions, technical programs and committee meetings. 6/22 – 6/24 – WASA/AWSP Summer Conference

The 2025 WASA (The Washington Association of School Administrators)/AWSP Summer Conference presents an opportunity to shine a light on the accomplishments of the 2024-25 school year and gain insights and ideas for the upcoming year. 7/9 – 7/10 – CCEC 16th Annual California Climate & Energy Forum

The 16th Annual California Climate & Energy Forum is coming to San Jose, CA! The CCEC Forum brings together several hundred local government staff, elected officials, and community organizations, to collaborate and learn from each other as they work to advance fair and equitable climate change and energy practices. The 16th Annual CCEC Forum, themed “Hope in Action: Local Leads the Way,” will spotlight the critical role of local leadership in shaping a sustainable future amidst an uncertain climate landscape.

7/16 – 7/18 – 2025 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a nonprofit research organization, develops policies to reduce energy waste and combat climate change. Its independent analysis advances investments, programs, and behaviors that use energy more effectively and help build an equitable clean energy future.

How do you take advantage of opportunity and minimize the risk? How does your network support you? BEPS Rulemaking Webinars Announced

The Seattle Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) is hosting two webinars to solicit feedback from stakeholders to inform its drafting of the Building Emissions Performance Standard (BEPS) Director’s Rule.  

A Director’s Rule is required by Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) to clarify elements of the BEPS ordinance (SMC 22.925), which was signed by Mayor Harrell in December 2023. This includes details like reporting procedures, documentation, exemption and extension timelines, and more. 

Register for the webinars below: 

  • Webinar #1: May 8 from 12 p.m.–2 p.m.
  • Webinar #2: May 22 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

OSE will post full webinar agendas in early May, but expects to cover: 

  • Webinar #1: Benchmarking Verification, emissions reporting & documentation requirements, documentation for exemptions and extensions, and more. 
  • Webinar #2: Reporting end use deductions, building portfolio & campus reports, alternative compliance options, and more. 

Each webinar will cover different topics, so please attend both if you wish to receive all information. Webinar recordings and slides will be posted online a few days after the events. 

The rulemaking webinars precede an upcoming formal 3-week comment period, where OSE will invite the public to give input on the draft Director’s Rule. Position Description

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle’s electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

This position will manage on-going program performance across one or more program segments in the Customer Care and Energy Solutions program portfolio. The CCES Program Portfolio has four active program segments: Resource Acquisition, Affordability, Value-Added Services, and Transportation Electrification. Each segment is comprised of multiple programs whose individual objectives are aligned to achieve focused outcomes.

This position will be responsible for managing and coordinating cross-functional and cross-division or department work in a highly matrix organizational structure to implement the portfolio segment. This includes oversight of program managers, achievement of key metrics, stakeholder outreach and engagement, and on-going strategic alignment and road-mapping of the segment.

This position will support operational strategy and planning across defined portfolio segments. Key functions include ensuring program alignment to policy and strategic outcomes, setting program business success factors, reinforcing customer and RSJ-centric design and stakeholder engagement, and delivery of key performance metrics and time-sensitive milestones. The portfolio segment lead will advise the portfolio management team and make recommendations that shape operational strategy and policy for program inclusion and implementation within the portfolio segment. This position will report to the Solutions Design & Management Manager.

Job Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities – Here is more about what you’ll be doing:

  • Oversee a team of program managers responsible for implementation and execution of programs assigned to one or more of the CCES portfolio segments.
  • Set operational targets, oversee portfolio segment development and integrate stakeholder feedback on an ongoing basis to identify and implement solutions that meet customer and business needs.
  • Provide strategic direction across portfolio segment(s) to better coordinate efforts across programs and stakeholders.  Evaluate, adapt, and recommend program models and approaches that align programs across the portfolio segment.  Work closely with City Light’s Customer Care and Energy Solutions portfolio management team to communicate segment needs.
  • Advise and make recommendations to City Light and City executives on portfolio segment progress and recommend new policy initiatives or adaptive changes, as necessary.
  • Lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support execution of portfolio segment goals and development of new goals or portfolio enhancements.  Oversee the outcomes of internal and external customer-facing teams and related outreach.
  • Provide oversight and alignment on programmatic baselines, incentive and fee design, evaluation, and performance metrics.
  • Manage regulatory and policy issues including reporting and communication requirements.
  • Support development of budgetary requests, external contracting and other cost-management and oversight activities.
  • Focus on employee development and coaching, working with staff to identify key skill sets and opportunities to develop them.  Assist and coach employees in effective management of highly matrixed program teams.
  • Develop and deliver executive presentations and communicate business, technical and policy information in a manner accessible for a variety of audiences.
  • Other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned above, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: 
Baccalaureate Degree in Energy Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline and three years experience in professional commercial/industrial energy management analysis, with at least one year of supervisory or lead worker experience (Other combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).Desired Qualifications – You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ of progressively responsible experience providing strategic and operational support in policy, energy management, distributed energy resources, and/or decarbonization technology or related field.
  • Experience setting strategy and long-term planning, including implementing policies and/or programs and providing outreach to key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading teams and people in a cross-functional, matrix organization
  • Leadership and coaching experience with key strategies to resolve conflict and bring strategic thinking / thought leadership.
  • A proven ability to successfully develop relationships and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.
  • Proven program management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to build trust and value-based relationships with employees at all levels of internal and external organizations, with a commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent organizational analysis and systems thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated self-starter and strong leader with sound judgement and ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Knowledge of public sector organization and practices; familiarity with city/municipal organizations preferred.
  • Experience working with personnel and human relations policy and issues, including organized labor.
