What is a Smart Building?
In the simplest terms, a smart building is a building that leverages data and technology to optimize building operations and resources. At the Smart Buildings Center, we envision a Spectrum of Smart, starting on one end with simply benchmarking your building to gain understanding of energy performance to the other end where you have a highly sophisticated building with interconnected systems that gather and analyze data in real-time to optimize energy usage, maintenance, security, comfort or other building owner/manager goals.
How is the Smart Buildings Center Helping?
The mission of the Smart Buildings Center is to accelerate the adoption and commercialization of smart buildings practices and technologies through education and demonstration. This includes supporting building owners in benchmarking, providing technical assistance to support compliance with local building performance standards, offering training to building operators in the smart and efficient management of a building, hosting technical webinars to broaden industry expertise, providing a free library of building diagnostic tools, providing on demand trainings via our YouTube Channel, and hosting an annual Smart Buildings Exchange Conference.
