We are very excited to share that we are launching an annual Smart Buildings conference in September 2020 in Seattle! The two-day conference and tradeshow will connect participants to the latest information and technologies in the smart buildings industry. We will showcase smart city and building projects and initiatives located in the PNW and will provide educational tracks to highlight the ‘why, what and how’ for smart buildings.

Building Tour: Bringing Smart to Existing Buildings

Join the Smart Buildings Center and Siemens on a guided Smart Buildings Tour of the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center campus on Wednesday, November 6th, 2019. Bob Cowan, Facilities Director for Fred Hutch, will provide a guided tour of the facility and will showcase smart technologies that have been implemented throughout the campus. During the tour, Bob will provide insights on how these smart technologies have improved the overall operability of the building, and increased productivity and building efficiency.

SBC welcomes voltage optimization company, Legend Power

We’re Legend Power® Solutions Inc. and we’re really pleased to be up and running in the Smart Buildings Center! As we ramp up our presence in Seattle, we couldn’t think of more aligned organizations than NEEC and the SBC. We now have a presence in the Tool Lending Library (you can now borrow our proprietary Voltage Loggers to easily measure real time voltage in your building) and you can check out our interactive map of the scope of overvoltage across Seattle on SBC’s Smart Board.

Legend manufactures the SmartGATE™; an innovative energy conservation and management platform for high-performance buildings. We reduce your building’s energy usage by 3-5% and reduce the impact grid volatility has on your building.

After an initial meeting, a usual first step is to do a voltage profile of the building using our Voltage Logger, which you can borrow for free from SBC’s Tool Lending Library. It lets you see voltage. It simply plugs into a wall socket and records detailed voltage levels in the building. We recommend approximately 2 weeks of data. We download the data from the on-board SD card, from which we then provide the voltage profile for the period.

Curious about your building? Or a client’s building? Check for yourself if your building is over or under voltage, and what you could potentially be saving on energy. SmartGATE™ also improves your building’s resiliency by minimizing downtime due to voltage issues. Certified Energy Manager Training & Certification Opportunity

The local AEE Columbia River Chapter will be hosting the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) training and certification in downtown Portland October 28th – November 1st. The five-day training seminar provides an in-depth, comprehensive learning and problem-solving forum through examining the fundamentals within key areas of energy management. Participants learn, system by system, how to diagnose and analyze energy savings opportunities. The CEM certification exam will be proctored on the final day of the training. We will be discussing the latest in smart technologies during an expert (and unbiased!) panel discussion focusing on the business case for smart building technologies. This will be a fantastic event and we hope to see you there!

After the event concludes, we will also be hosting a Tool Lending Library Open House along with AESP Evergreen Chapter, we hope you can join us for some drinks and apps!

The Tool Lending Library Open House is free to attend and we will hear from tool manufacturer, Fluke, to provide a demonstration on some of the tools we offer through the library, like our IR camera, as well as a brand new leak detecting tool for compressed air or other gasses.
